Overview of guides in Teaching and Teacher Education over 10 years (2000-2010) on teacher professional development is the topic of the paper. Part one synthesises production known to learning, facilitation and collaboration, factors impacting on professional development, effectiveness of professional development and issues round the styles. The 2nd part, chooses in the production nine articles for closer examination. The paper concludes by observing the way the production brings about the reasons of teacher professional learning and just how development and research took cognisance of those factors and provided food for optimism regarding their effects, while not yet regarding their sustainability over time.
